Welcome to the exciting world of O gauge model trains. Your miniature trains are major fun machines. Full-size trains are among the most powerful machines you'll ever see, blasting down the mainline at 60 mph hauling millions of pounds of freight in strings of cars five miles long. Model railroading brings this power and speed into your own room. The trains provide hours of fast running, roaring engines, and billowing smoke. Building a model railroad is an adventure that never ends, because your imagination will always see new details or features you want to add to your empire. And with the incredible variety of products now available to O Gauge railroaders, there has never been a better time to enter the hobby. While the fun lasts a lifetime, your local retailer makes it easy to get started with model trains.

The greatest satisfaction of model railroading is the chance to build a world where YOU are the boss. Every tree, every hill, every train, every building is exactly as you choose, and no train runs without your finger on the controls. Your layout is a place where you can make your dreams reality, without interference from anyone else. How often in life do you get that kind of opportunity?

It's time to get started on a hobby that will bring years of enjoyment.

Gauge is the distance between the outside rails on a track. O gauge is 1.25" wide. Any O gauge train must have wheels spaced so that it will run on that size track.

Scale is the ratio of a model train's size to the real train it is based on. O scale is 1/48th the size of real trains and ¼ inch on your layout represents a foot in the real world. MTH Premier products are true 1-to-48 scale models.

In order to fit layouts into a reasonable amount of space, model train tracks use very tight curves. Precise O scale engines and cars often can't make it through anything smaller than O-72 curves. Many O gauge models are designed to handle O-31 curves and are therefore sometimes shorter in length than actual scale models. However, their sound, smoke, and operating features provide you with the most advanced realism in model railroading.
